This stunning handmade 18ct yellow gold and platinum Tourmaline pendant was made for a client who was given this stone back in the 80’s and it was finally time to get it made into a piece of jewellery!
She also brought a variety of Diamonds; 1 princess cut, 1 baguette cut and 10 carré cut Diamonds. It wasn’t applicable to get the 10.25ct Tourmaline recut as it would put a question mark over the stone’s integrity. Instead, I took on the creative challenge of coming up with a design that would conceal the gems damage but still emphasize the beauty of the Indicolite Tourmaline.I started by playing around with squares and rectangles as these shapes highlight the long lines seen in Tourmalines. After a few discussions we decided on these overlapping concave squares that bring an intriguing perspective, as well as allowing the design to become substantial while still maintaining a light elegance. 12 Diamonds totalling approx. 0.54cts are channel set into platinum sections around the pendant; these pieces cover the broken section of the Tourmaline and bring additional sparkle into the design as well as offering a cool contrast to the yellow gold concaves surrounding the stone.
