This pair of handcrafted 22ct yellow gold and silver earrings were a commission from a client who brought in a pair of greek ancient coins. The parameters around the piece were to make it complimentary and seamless, and to ensure the earrings looked like they were from the same era as the coins. I started the silver domes and carved out little concave reliefs into the surface, which would later be oxidised to create the contrast that gives the earrings an authentic and aged look. The gold bezel setting has a rough hammered finish to stay close to the original style better frame the coins as they didn’t have a smooth circumference. 22ct gold was used because it’s closer to the rich colour of gold that would have been used in the period the coins were made and as a softer metal it is easier to mould making it perfect for this design.
